More than 500 residents have joined the Conservancy to advance the mission of protecting our land and natural resources, and to help maintain the rural lifestyle that we all cherish in Tinicum Township. Many of them have grown up here and hope the wooded areas, working farms and rolling hills that make this area special will remain for their children and grandchildren. Newcomers and weekenders want to preserve the quality of life that first drew them to Tinicum. We are an organization that depends solely on private gifts to operate. Your support will help us implement our continued vision for Tinicum. If you appreciate the value of your region’s landscape and want to protect it for future generations, please consider a donation to the Conservancy. Every gift, no matter what the size, makes a difference.

Consider Creating A Lasting Legacy
Including the Conservancy in your will or estate plans can have a huge, positive impact on Tinicum's future. Your legacy can be as solid as the l and we protect by naming the Tinicum Conservancy in your estate. Donors can pledge gifts through the donation of cash, stock, non-conservation real estate, life insurance or other estate assets. Your gift will be used to ensure the long-term strength of the organization and critical stewardship needs or you can designate your pledge for a specific use. We would like to thank you for your pledge by welcoming you to our Legacy Club, a group of conservation-minded citizens, who have also dedicated all or part of their estate to the Conservancy. You can be an anonymous member if you choose, but please let us know by emailing us at tinicumconserv@epix.net or by calling 610-294-1077 and asking to speak with Jim Engel, Executive Director.

Box 206 Erwinna, PA 18920.
Donating Your Land
Easement
A conservation easement is a voluntary agreement with a landowner and the Tinicum Conservancy or other conservancy or government agency to permanently protect the important conservation and/or agricultural values of the property and limit further development of the property. This agreement also allows the landowner to continue control of the property and retain certain rights to manage and develop the property.
Outright Donation
In the most basic form of donation, full fee interest in a property is transferred to a conservation organization. This qualifies the donor for a federal income tax charitable deduction for the fair market value of the property as determined by a qualified appraiser.
Donation with Life Estate
If you are interested in donating your land for conservation purposes but still want to live there, donation with a life estate can be a solution. Generally, the property owner reserves the right to continue to live on the donated property until some triggering event (usually when the property owner moves from the property or dies) conveys possession of the property to the recipient organization.
Appreciated Assets
Perhaps you own a fairly small property that has been in the family for years and you can’t bear the idea of it being subdivided into smaller lots in the future. While your land may not be a high priority for protection by a land trust, you may still be able to leverage it for substantial conservation and tax benefit. In this case, the landowner donates the property to a conservation organization that, in turn, places a conservation easement on it restricting future development. The organization then sells the property and uses the proceeds to support other conservation projects. The landowner may be entitled to a federal income tax charitable deduction for the value of the property.
Bequest
You may also donate your property through your will or living trust. This allows you to maintain full control of the land during your lifetime. When land is donated through bequest, the donor’s estate receives an estate tax charitable deduction for the fair market value of the property, thus reducing estate taxes that are often substantial.
